Online Casinos offer a dizzying array of games, and you can bet that the fan favorite roulette is getting plenty of variations. Usually, an online casino will have American, European and French Roulette on offer.
Which one to play, you ask? There are big differences in terms of odds, so avoiding certain versions will do your bankroll some good. To better understand the differences, let's use some mathematics and figure out the odds.
We're going to assume we're making a $1 bet on black in each of the versions:
American Roulette:
(-1 x 18/38) + (-1 x 18/38) + (1 x 18/38) = -.0537
European Roulette:
(1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 1/37) = -0.027
French Roulette:
(1 x 18/37) + (-1 x 18/37) + (-0.5 x 1/37) = -0.014
The result is the average loss per dollar in each version of the roulette. As you can see, the American Roulette offers the least attractive odds with almost five and a half cents lost per dollar. This is due to fact that it has two green numbers (0, 00), making it slightly less likely for the outcome to be black or red. The European Roulette is better, as it has only one green number, making the odds better. The French Roulette has one green number and it pays back half of your bet if the outcome is a green number, making it the most favorable version of Roulette.
