We've all heard of a betting system at one point or another, and we've all been charmed by the prospect of being unbeatable at the casino. Unfortunately, these ideas may work in theory, but reality is rarely as forgiving. Casinos are all well aware of these systems, and have employed a large number of counter-measures that ensure that aspiring winners don't get the best of them. One of the biggest flaws of all betting systems is the table limit – think about it, why would a casino want to limit you? They have an edge in any case so this would only increase their profit. The table limits started appearing shortly after the Martingale system became well known. This system has you double your bet every time you lose so that you always recoup your losses and earn your first bet. Casinos placed table limits to ensure that this system isn't viable.
Other systems try to succeed where the martingale system failed, but even though they are less vulnerable, the table limits still pose a big threat. All it takes is a losing streak and you're out.
There are, however, advantages to using betting systems. First of all, they can work, but it will be a matter of luck, which is what the casino is about anyway. Second, even if they don't always work, they still provide a better chance of winning than just betting away in no specific pattern. Furthermore, using betting systems allows you to play in a more organized way – meaning you have better track of your bankroll, which could help knock some sense in to you before you lose too much.
In short, betting systems can pay off, assuming they work. If betting systems really worked so well, don't you think that casinos would be out of business by now?
