Blackjack may be one of the most popular casino games out there, but it doesn't mean it has favorable odds for the player. Like any other casinogame, the odds are always against the player and give the house an edge. The question is, how do you get the odds in your favor?
With Blackjack, even if use the strategy chart and every “right” decision along the way, the odds are still against you. The only way to somehow get the odds in your favor is to utilize card counting techniques that will tell you when to start increasing your bets and when you should opt to move to another table.
Each card is assigned a value. Cards 2-6 are valued at +1, 7-9 are zero, and all the 10's, face cards and aces are valued at -1. You simply keep track of the cards that come out and keep track of the count. For instance, if the first hand included the cards 2, 4, 7, 3, A, and 5, than the count would be +3 because cards 2, 5, 4, and 3 are worth +1, 7 is 0 and the A was -1.
If there is more than one deck used, divide your count by the number of decks. So for instance, if you've reached a count of 18 and there are 6 decks in use, than your actual count is 3 (18/6 = 3).
Until you reach a favorable count, which is anything over 4-5, it's time to start putting down bigger bets. At this point you'll start seeing better cards and your chances of winning are increased.
Online casinos prove to be a good place to this, because you don't have anyone constantly looking at you and evaluating your every move. Using an online casino, you can even take notes and do everything at your own pace, which a great way practicing.
This technique may seem easy to some, but it requires a great deal of practice. Casinos are aware of these techniques for many years and they've done a lot to make it harder to count cards: dealers are quick to move cards around, free drinks, and of course there's that guy with in a suit checking anyone who's winning too often. Be smart about your card counting skills and there's no reason you shouldn't be a winner.
